About this role
We are looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to help us build the product layer that millions of people in the African diaspora will depend on. You will work closely with design and product to ship interfaces that feel fast, beautiful, and trustworthy — in a space where trust is everything.
This role sits at the intersection of product engineering and craft. You will own large parts of our web app and design system, make architectural decisions, and raise the bar for how the frontend team works.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain our core web product — the Axra dashboard, onboarding flows, and customer-facing pages — in React and TypeScript
- Own and evolve the Axra design system, working closely with our product designers to keep component quality high
- Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate REST and WebSocket APIs seamlessly
- Drive technical decisions: state management strategy, testing philosophy, performance budgets
- Mentor junior engineers through code review, pair programming, and internal documentation
What we're looking for
- 5+ years building production web applications, with at least 3 years in React
- Deep TypeScript expertise — you think in types, not just tolerate them
- Strong product sense: you notice when something feels off before a designer says anything
- Experience building and maintaining a component library or design system at scale
- Familiarity with performance optimization (Core Web Vitals, lazy loading, code splitting)
- Comfortable in async, remote-first environments — clear written communication is a must
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or highly regulated product environments
- Familiarity with React Native (our mobile app is in the same codebase)
- Prior experience at a startup where you have worn multiple hats
- Open-source contributions or public work we can look at
