About this role
Most of our users interact with Axra on mobile — often on a bus in Lagos or queuing at a post office in London. The app needs to feel fast, reliable, and human regardless of connection quality or device age. We are looking for a Mobile Engineer who ships the kind of experiences users come back for.
You will own significant parts of our React Native codebase, working in a unified repo alongside the web frontend team and collaborating closely with design, backend, and product.
What you'll do
- Build and ship features across our React Native iOS and Android apps — transfers, cards, account management, and onboarding
- Maintain and improve app performance: startup time, render cycles, memory, and offline behaviour
- Implement native modules where React Native abstractions fall short
- Work with the design system team to ensure components render pixel-perfect on both platforms
- Own the release pipeline: TestFlight, internal tracks, App Store and Play Store submissions
- Write tests (Jest, Detox) and contribute to our CI pipeline
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of professional React Native experience with shipped apps on both stores
- Strong TypeScript skills — we don’t use JavaScript in new code
- Comfortable bridging to native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) when needed
- Experience with state management (Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or similar) and async data patterns
- A good eye for UI detail — you notice when an animation is off by 20ms
- Experience debugging on low-end devices and slow networks
Nice to have
- Experience with Expo or bare workflow — we use the latter
- Previous fintech app experience, particularly auth flows and biometric security
- Familiarity with push notification infrastructure (FCM, APNs)
